(the “Company” or “Patronus”), a commercialization accelerator focused on advanced dual-use materials for specialized defense and civilian industrial applications, is pleased to announce the appointment of Giles Hill to Chairman of the Board. Having formerly served as the Company’s Chief Executive Officer, Giles is well poised to contribute his expertise and understanding of the industry at the Board level.
Giles was one of the more senior officers in the UK armed forces, retiring in December 2021 after a hugely distinguished and unique military career that took him from private solider in the Parachute Regiment to Lieutenant General. He has over three decades of national and international leadership roles and considerable experience in senior roles at the forefront of UK National Security.
Giles is one of the UK’s most experienced operational leaders with multiple operational tours including Northern Ireland, the Balkans, Iraq and Afghanistan. He was Commanding Officer of the 1st Battalion Parachute Regiment and the UK Special Forces Support Group, Commander of 16 Air Assault Brigade, General Officer Commanding 1st Armoured and 1st (United Kingdom) Division and Deputy Commander of the 40-nation NATO Coalition and Senior British Representative of Afghanistan. He also holds the distinction of having been the first Deputy Commanding General of the US 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg. He has held several senior roles in the UK MOD including Assistant Chief of Defence Staff, responsible for the UK’s International policy, plans and global strategy. He was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 2014, Companion of the Order of the Bath (CB) in 2021 and awarded the US Legion of Merit for his leadership.
